The Summer School is organized as a collaboration between different Departments of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the University of Illinois at Chicago. During the one-week program, interdisciplinary lecturers will present their findings with the help of various case studies on a current area of research (neighborhoods and communities, diversity, tourism, mobility and infrastructure, sustainability and architecture and planning processes). Other researchers will also be present and introduce their ideas on the topic to demonstrate the benefits of an inter- and transdisciplinary approach to such research. Inter- and transdisciplinarity plays an important methodological role during the entire week, allowing students to see different perspectives, work in groups and try to synthesize the various disciplines. In addition, field trips designed to augment the case studies will be organized within the city of Lucerne as well as one field trip to a tourist site in the Lucerne region.
