From humble beginnings around a campfire, storytelling now has the ability to reach the world. This module explores the forms and techniques of the oral storytelling tradition throughout the ages, using examples from myth, literature, and popular culture: Grimms’ fairy tales, Star Wars, the heroic epic in Lord of the Rings, the anti-epic Game of Thrones. Class participants will be expected to deliver three stories of their own, one of which will be assessed for the final grade. A final written essay is also part of the assessment. Materials and course instruction are in English, offering you a chance to improve your English while using it.
