Overview

More information
This module offers students the opportunity to explore code as a creative practice. It provides an overview of different models of artificial intelligence, their historical development, and key areas of application.

Through practice-oriented, hands-on introductions, students develop a basic understanding of how code and AI-based systems function. In experimental settings, they apply various AI models in practice, including coding, image generation, and object recognition, and critically reflect on their use in terms of benefits, potentials, and limitations.

As part of the development of an individual small-scale project, these technical systems are used as tools for creative work, critically examined through self-developed methods, or actively applied in a purposeful manner.

Eligibility to attend

All enrolled bachelor’s and master’s students, as well as doctoral candidates, at the three universities in Lucerne (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, University of Lucerne, and Lucerne University of Teacher Education) are eligible to participate.
Subject to availability, staff members and external participants are also welcome (for a fee).

Entry requirements

Prior programming experience is not required but is beneficial.
English entry requirements, level C1.

Specific expertise

Students acquire foundational knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence, with a focus on the conceptual and technical development of an individual prototype. They gain an understanding of key application areas of AI, experiment with different models, and explore their fundamental operating principles. Building on this, students are able to apply AI-based methods in practice and critically reflect on their use with regard to potentials, limitations, and ethical and societal implications.
